Rugby is a sport in a tremendous rise in the United States since the beginning of the 21st century. However, it has certain peculiarities in terms of organization compared to most American college sports, as it is not under the domain of the NCAA in men’s categories and, being able to ignore its growth, has begun to grant the creation of university programs dedicated to the women’s category, with 21 affiliated universities.

There are around 900 men’s and women’s teams registered under USA Rugby and the College Rugby Association of America (CRAA), the largest organizations for the sport. These comprise the top college rugby divisions: Men’s D1A, Women’s D1 Elite, Women’s D1 and Women’s D2.
